Future Data Analysts Gain Real-World Insights: University Students Embark on Eye-Opening Academic Industrial Visit to Sime Darby Research Plantation Sdn Bhd

Centre for Mathematical Sciences, CMS has organised an industrial academic visit under the Statistical Modelling and Simulation (BSD3443) Course to improve students understanding related to the teaching and learning of this course on 12 January 2024. This industrial academic visit was led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Noryanti Muhammad, Course Coordinator. The visit also been participated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Roslinazairimah Zakaria, Dr. Mohd Khairul Bazli Mohd Aziz, and Dr. Sahimel Azwal Sulaiman, the data analyst lecturers.

57 participants have joined this industrial academic visit, 52 of them are from a third-year students from the Bachelor of Applied Science in Data Analytics with Honours course, Universiti Malaysia Pahang AL-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) and four (4) are the senior lecturers and one (1) a postgraduate student from CSM. This industrial academic visit is aimed to delve the students into the practical applications of their skills during an academic-industrial visit to Sime Darby Research Plantation Sdn Bhd. This unique initiative also aimed to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world applications, providing students with a rare opportunity to witness data analytics in action within the dynamic setting of a leading research plantation.

It is hoped that the students could apply their analytical skills to the vast datasets generated by the plantation's operations, offering insights into optimizing agricultural processes, resource management, and sustainability practices.
