Industrial Talk “Development of Malaysia AI: Generative AI, Nous & Malaysia Large Language Model (MaLLaM)”

Centre for Mathematical Sciences (CSM), Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah held a Data Analytics Industrial Talk on 19th January 2024 entitled “Development of Malaysia AI: Generative AI, Nous & Malaysia Large Language Model (MaLLaM)”. This virtual discourse invited Mr. Ahmad Khalil bin Mohamad Nooh, co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Mesolitica Sdn Bhd. The two-hour discourse was moderated by Dr. Ku Muhammad Na’im Ku Khalif, Senior Lecturer, Center for Mathematical Sciences, University Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah.

In this session, Mr. Khalil talked about an overview of Malaysia's advancements in artificial intelligence, focusing on generative AI technologies and their applications. He introduced 'Nous', a notable AI initiative or platform in Malaysia, and delved into the specifics of the Malaysia Large Language Model (MaLLaM), highlighting its design, capabilities, and relevance to Malaysian languages and contexts. The talk concluded with discussions on challenges and future directions for AI development in Malaysia, including ethical, privacy, and resource considerations.

In addition, the speaker also addressed the importance of academics in ethical AI development and policy-making to ensure that AI advances reflect societal and cultural values. AI is transforming education and workforce development, and academics are crucial to preparing future generations. The use of AI to preserve and promote Malaysian languages and cultures shows the potential of technology in cultural preservation.
