PSM SULAM PROGRAMME “Collaborative Cleanup Initiatives For Community Improvement”

In a collaborative effort to blend environmental conservation with cutting-edge data science, students from the Bachelor of Applied Science in Data Analytics with Honours and Bachelor of Business Analytics with Honours programs organized the "SULAM Collaborative Cleanup Initiatives for Community Improvement" on Saturday, December 9, 2023.

The event, held at Pantai Pelindung, Kuantan, Pahang, from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm, was part of the course BSD1313 Introduction to Data Science. Comprising 94 participants, including 59 data analytics students and 35 business analytics students, the program aimed to instill a sense of responsibility among students while contributing to the cleanliness and preservation of local beaches.

Led by Dr. Mohd Khairul Bazli bin Mohd Aziz AND and join by Head of Programme of Data Analytics Dr. Adam Shariff bin Adli Aminuddin, and PM. Dr. Noryanti binti Muhammad, the initiative not only focused on the physical cleanup of coastal areas but also integrated a data science cycle to gather valuable insights from the cleanup efforts.

The SULAM program received invaluable support and collaboration from Trash Hero, providing guidance throughout the initiative. Pusat Sains Kemanusiaan, UMPSA, generously funded the event, while Yakult (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd sponsored refreshing Yakult drinks for the participants.

The cleanup event was not confined to academic boundaries, as Masjid Jamek Beserah granted permission to use the mosque area for logistics and coordination. Alam Flora Sdn Bhd and Majlis Perbandaran Kuantan actively participated in the cleanup, emphasizing the significance of community involvement in environmental preservation.

The program not only left Pantai Pelindung visibly cleaner but also fostered a sense of community and environmental consciousness among the participants. SULAM stands as a testament to the power of collaborative initiatives, where data science meets community service, leaving a lasting impact on both the local environment and the students involved.
